     STONEBRAKER, GEORGE B.

George B. McClelland Stonebraker was born in Belmont. County. near Centerville, Ohio, March 3, 1863. the son of Samuel and Catherine Barrett Stonebraker.
On his twenty-first birthday, he left Ohio to join his brother Albert, who had already moved to Antelope County,Nebraska, and took up a homestead near Royal. His future bride, Addie Martha Pancoast (July 10, 1865) also of Belmont County, joined him in Nebraska and they were married September 29, 1885. Her parents were William Frost Pancoast and Lydia White Pancoast.
While living on the Royal homestead, they had six sons and two daughters.
"B", as he was known to his friends (actually the initial had no meaning), was active in community affairs, including the Methodist Church of which he was a member and regular attendant, and the Antelope County Fair where he served for many years as superintendent of the horse division.
A few years before his death, Mr. Stonebraker purchased the "Huffman and Rollins" ranch just west of Neligh, where he was engaged in extensive farming and stock breeding.
Mr. Stonebraker died July 26, 1917. After her husband's death. Mrs. Stonebraker purchased the family home in Neligh, where she resided until her death and where her granddaughter, Ruth Wagner, now lives.
Affectionately called "Grandma Stonebraker" by friends and family alike, she received a call from the depot one day asking if she was "The Grandma Stonebraker" who was to get a new stove. She accepted the surprise gift sent by a granddaughter in California! She was an avid worker in the
Methodist Church, holding the office of president of "The Ladies Aid" for about 40 years. She developed a near nationwide reputation as a maker and quilter of quilts and kept busy working on those sent to her from either coast. Each grandchild received one for high school graduation. She also
belonged to a knitting group which sent garments to soldiers in World War II. She had had good practice since she had knitted many of the socks worn by her six sons, and also made most of their shirts. Mrs. Stonebraker died at her home in June, 1950.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was
secretary of the Sunday School for a long time. She also held several offices in the Wesleyan Service Guild, including president. She had received a fifty-year membership pin from the church and a special mission recognition pin from the United Methodist Women.
Active in other community affairs, Bessie was a member of the Neligh Business and Professional Women's Club, the Knitter's Club, and Cora Rebekah Lodge No. 86, which she served as Past Noble Grand and was secretary for several terms.
Dallas (1893-1961) married Myrtle Kost. He was a farmer and rancher all his life, spending many years on the former family farm west of Neligh. Three children joined their family, Wilfred (1919), Elmyra (1923), and Louella Mae (1930). After Myrtle's death, Dallas married Ruth Hall.
Clinton (1894-1962) was in partnership in agricultural ventures with his brother Dallas. He served for many years as secretary of the Antelope County Fair. He married Gertrude Kost (Myrtle's sister), and their family consisted of four offspring: Delmont (1921), Elisabeth Barbara (1924), Delbert (1926), and Newell (1934). Clinton filled the office as Clerk of the District Court.
Ralph (1897-1949) married Esther Palmer. After farming for several years east of Neligh, they moved to California where he worked for Safeway Stores. Their children include Dawn (1919), Norma (1921). Ralph Jr. "Bud" (1923), and William (1928).
William (1903-1967) gave up a short farming career and moved to Omaha. He left no heirs.
