Somerset, the county seat, was laid out in 1795, incorporated as a borough on March 5, 1804 and was located on the turnpike road leading from Bedford to Pittsburgh, now known at Route 31.

You ngest child, Magdalena Bair Hoobler, died November 2, 1880 in Harrison Co, Ohio. Obituary says she was born March 24, 1800 in Somerset Co, Pa.
At the age of 5 she came with her parents to Harrison Co, Ohio, and settled on a tract of land near where the village of Fairview (then Jewett) now stands. [This would put Daniel Bair's arrival in Harrison County around 1805-which colaborates the date of sold property above, to Henry Will.]
Magdalena was married at the age of 23 to John Hoobler, and according to the obituary they settled on a portion of Daniel's land where she resided until her death. Her remains were interred in a small burying ground on the old family homestead, then owned by James Stall.

A short history of New Rumley published in the late 1940's-The New Rumley United Brethren Church was founded about 1810. The early history of the church is obscure. Bishop Newcomer, who traveled many thousand miles in his evangelistic work, came through New Rumley several times, and in his diary for the years 1816-1819 wrote of stopping with Manbecks and Shambaughs, and preaching at the Baer's .
The history of New Rumley continues:The Baer and Brown (Braun ) families who came here from Pennsylvania were the first church people, then the Jacob Manbeck and George Shambaugh families moved here soon afterward and were pillars in the early church.
One of the Manbeck girls would marry a Baer (or Bair), and the Browns (Braun) had ties to the Shambaugh family and to the Manbeck family.
[Danie l Bair Jr married Elizabeth Manbeck- who's mother was a Braun, and her grandmother was a Shambach on 22 Sept 1831 by Thomas Day, JP]
The town of New Rumley was an overnight stop for the Stage Coach between Steubenville and New Philadelphia. Daniel Bear was also known as Bair. He was born on 28 May 1755 at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Colony, America.1 He was baptized circa July 1755; Name: Daniel Baer
